In Memoriam: Igumenia Marina (1930-2012)

It is with a profound sense of loss that the Board of ISOCM announces the passing away of Igumenia Marina, abbess of the Convent of Lintula, following injuries sustained in a traffic accident, on 17 June 2012.

Born Maria Iltola in 1930, Igumenia Marina worked as a teacher before entering the monastic life. She also spent time studying in the United States during the 1960s, and as a missionary in Kenya in 1977-80. She entered Lintula Convent in 1984, and was Igumenia from 1998.

Mother Marina’s contribution to the spiritual life of the Finnish Orthodox Church was as deep as it will be lasting.

Eternal memory!
