ISOCM represented at Australian ROCOR Music Conference

Brunswick, Victoria, Australia - Father Ivan Moody, ISOCM Board Chair participated as a guest lecturer during the recent Liturgical Music Conference held at the Cathedral of the Protection of the Holy Virgin here from 14 - 17 July 2011.

The conference, organized with the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion of Australian and New Zealand, (ROCOR) provided participants with the opportunity to explore the wealth and majesty of Russian and Serbian liturgical music through lectures, hands-on workshops, rehearsals and divine services.

Other conference activities included exploring historical trends, contributions of key figures in Russian / Serbian sacred music; rehearsal and performance of a variety of sacred chant settings while addressing practical questions of performance practice and directing which are faced by today's directors and singers.

The conferences incorporated a festive hierarchical All-Night Vigil and Divine Liturgy sung by the participants dedicated to the New Martyrs of Russia. The conference concluded with a concert featuring the music of Fr Ivan Moody performed by Melbourne Cappella and the St Nicholas Chorale at St Mary’s Star of the Sea (West Melbourne). Previous conferences have been held in Toronto, New York, Montreal, San Francisco, Chicago, London, Sydney, Melbourne with participants from all over the world. In addition to Father Moody, Georgi Safonov of the St. Daniel's Monastery, Moscow, Russia also participated as a guest lecturer. They joined other directors and speakers from Australia, Russia and the United Kingdom.
