Archaion Kallos International Festival of Music

Prague - The International Society for Orthodox Church Music (ISOCM) is pleased to announce the Archaion Kallos International Festival of Orthodox Music, 30 September–16 October 2020.

The event, taking place in Prague, Czech Republic, features concerts, lectures, workshops, an exhibition, and divine services. Participation is also possible online via Zoom.

Archaion kallos, which means ancient beauty, speaks of a certain archetype, an “original beauty,” that is to say, the beauty which man beheld in Paradise and which he experienced after Creation.

The festival will present a wide and varied spectrum of music from and inspired by Orthodox liturgical music, including:

• Byzantine chant

• Settings by famed composers in the Russian romantic style (P. I. Tchaikovsky)

• Works by leading contemporary composers such as Philip Glass, Arvo Pärt and Ivan Moody

• The world premieres of settings by both established and emerging Czech composers
