About ISOCM
The International Society for Orthodox Church Music (ISOCM) was founded by an international group of musicians and scholars on 18th June 2005, following the First International Conference on Orthodox Church Music, “The Traditions of Orthodox Music”, held at the University of Joensuu, 13-19 June 2005, and with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Leo of Karelia and all Finland.
The Society has as its aims:

The fomentation of contact and sharing of information between Orthodox church musicians and institutions with like aims internationally;

The regular organization of international conferences and the publication of the proceedings thereof;
-
The publication of other resources for Orthodox Church music, including books, music publications and facsimiles.
The Second, Third, and Fourth International Conferences were heavily subscribed, and the Fifth Conference is continues to build on this tradition, thereby vindicating the vision of the founding members of the Society, to bring together musicians of diverse traditions with the Orthodox Church (and, it should be said, from related theological and musicological fields) with the aim of encouraging dialogue and discussion and the sharing of ideas.
The Proceedings of the four conferences (2005, 2007, 2009, 2011) are currently available for purchase. These webpages are constantly being developed and expanded, so please bookmark this site and return frequently.
In Spring 2013, the Society will complete the launch of its new on-line Journal.

About the ISOCM website
This website enables ISOCM to achieve those goals by helping musicians in the discovery of materials, digital manuscripts, and the exchanging of ideas to enhance the development of musical resources.
The ISOCM strives to accomplish these efforts for students of Orthodox liturgical music around the world, by extending knowledge and fomenting creativity in the area of Orthodox church singing. ISOCM believes strongly in the raising of standards, the importance of international-interdisciplinary research groups, and the avoidance of unnecessary duplication of efforts.
The ISOCM continues to look for ways to reinforce the unity of Orthodoxy in tangible ways for those living in modern society. Membership in ISOCM is open to anyone within any national church or jurisdiction.
The contacts and choir exchanges/trips between musicians who have attended the initial ISOCM conferences prove that the Society's aims are being achieved.
